Why We Like Anna Thomas

This year, Sister District NYC is supporting Anna Thomas for PA Assembly and we think she’s really great.

Anna really graduated from Freedom High School, really joined the local school board as a student rep when she caught wind of severe cuts to education funding (serving two years!), and really will be the youngest member of Pennsylvania’s Assembly when we help her win.

As our Sister District dossier explains more thoroughly, Anna grew up in the district in which she is running, which includes Bethlehem Township, with a deep commitment to faith and service. Her parents had immigrated from Malaysia and India, and saw her row on a championship team and earn a chemistry degree at Wellesley College, followed by an MPA at Penn. Anna’s bio defies pat categorization, and her policy priorities do too.

Anna is whip smart and will fight for a number of causes important to her constituency. She’ll fight for reproductive freedoms and for keeping PA’s government out of our most intimate personal decisions. She has already started spotlighting common ground across the political spectrum to support policies that keep air and water clean and that foster clean energy jobs. Mostly, she’s out to make sure Lehigh Valley public schools from kindergarten through college get proper support. Strong schools foster a strong business climate. A strong business climate with robust job growth can start to right the imbalance for low-income Pennsylvanians.

You can learn in sharper detail about Anna’s journey, her strategy, and the can-do Democrats running alongside her by exploring Sister District’s candidate page. And you can learn more about her community by calling voters in her district with us, every Tuesday evening over Zoom and once a month in person. See these signup pages for details. Finally, you can meet Anna’s neighbors -and hopefully Anna herself- if you make the two-hour trip to Bethlehem, PA with us in the fall to get out the vote.

Yes, it’s really Bethlehem. Yes, it’s really Anna Thomas.
